You can choose how many hours per week that you want English lessons

Come and stay with us, Tim and Julie.  This is the best way to learn English – total immersion.  You will be very surprised how your English language skills will improve and your confidence as well.

One-to-one home tuition, or in a small group, with homestay in your teacher’s home is the most effective way to develop language skills in a short period of time.

I am well qualified in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages with a Diploma in TESOL. I have had over twenty years’ experience in teaching English in International Schools and Summer Schools.

You will be assessed on the first day to ensure that I will teach you at the right level. Also, your progress is monitored from day one and you will receive regular feedback throughout your course. 

You can choose how many hours per week that you want English lessons. You can choose how many hours, activities and free-time you want to have.  For example:

  • 10 hours per week (2 hours Monday to Friday), up to 20 hours per week.
  • 5 hours of activities.

If you want extra lessons these will be charged for.

You will have the weekend to relax and to go on special cultural and fun activities. Please see the list of activities on the “About Us” page You will have your own bed room (or share a room) and share the large bathroom – (with shower and bath). Also, you will have all your meals of breakfast, lunch and dinner with the family, a great time to practice your new vocabulary and pronunciation on the family.

Included in the personalised packages:

  • 7 nights bed, breakfast, lunch and evening meal.
  • Laundry – one load per week.
  • Free use of: heated swimming pool (from April to September); tennis, French, boule, badminton, volley ball, English, playing snooker.
  • Preparation for a variety of different English courses such as the CAE exams; IELTS etc.
  • Wi-Fi connection, for which you can use the Internet and Skype.
  • We offer a good DVD library of over 300 DVD’s,from Walt Disney films, Star Trek movies to documentaries.”Netflix” which gives you 100’s of English and American recent films to watch, which will increase your English vocabulary.
  • Reading. Our book library is also well stocked with English novels, plays etc, and information books.
  • Assessment on day one: Students are tested on day one, to ensure that they are being taught at the correct level.
  • Progress report: At the end of the course you will get a document which gives you information on your performance and how to continue your English studies.
  • Attendance certificate: for display when you get home.

Our classroom allows me to teach students in peace and quiet. I use computers, a white board, authentic materials, various teaching textbooks; newspapers and magazines; also CD’s and games to encourage my students to learn and enjoy the lessons.

INTERNATIONAL HOMESTAY PRICES FOR January 2024

Prices would be reduced for students (who have the same level of English) who would like to have lessons together.  Please contact Julie to ask for prices.

Package includes:

  • Transfer from Ashford International rail station.
  • 7 days of full board – bed, breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacks and drinks.
  • 7 days of either 10 or 15 hours of teaching and marked homework.
  • 7 days of free activities: swimming (April to September – heated outdoor pool), boule, snooker, croquet, cycling, badminton, tennis, volley ball.
  • Use of 2.5 acres of garden.

If you would like further activities such as: canoeing, fishing, sailing, playing or lessons in golf, or tennis lessons, please ask and these can be priced for you.

18+ students can go on these activities, towns and cities on their own. Under 18’s will need to be accompanied by a teacher from RSE.

Tennis lessons

Daniel FirzGerald is an experienced tennis coach. He is member of the British Lawn Tennis Association and he is a trained level three coach. Also, he is a member of the American Professional Tennis Registry.

He will teach in one-hour slots.

Price:
Each one hour lesson (including hire of tennis rackets and tennis balls) + transport to and from the tennis courts is: £35.00

Bowler Crab – Shakespeare Experience

Rye School of English can now offer our students the Shakespeare Experience!

Would you like to act with Stephen John (Director of Bowler Crab)? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to say, and understand, some of the famous words written by Shakespeare? Now’s your chance!

For £60 per 1 hour:

  • One hour one to one session with Stephen John.
  • Opportunity to play some of your favourite key characters.
  • Stephen will work with you and your specific needs.
  • Analysis of your favourite characters – what are they saying?
  • Understand the play, and how to answer questions for your GCSE and A Levels.
  • Time for questions and answers.
  • GCSE, A level and IB students are welcome.

Our Location

Rye School of English is perfectly situated in the peaceful ‘Garden of England’ Kent countryside, yet within excellent proximity to all the amenities the South East of England has to offer.

Our school is located in a peaceful 18th century farmhouse, surrounded by woodland and countryside. We are five minutes from the perfect English market town of Tenterden – known as ‘The Jewel of the Weald’ – which has many excellent restaurants, pubs, cafes and shops.

In-Person Teaching

We offer one to one lessons or in small groups; whatever is best for you, or your pocket. We also teach English to foreign students from elementary to advanced and preparation for exams.

Online tuition accessed through our website using Zoom or Skype. Preparation for all exams: IELTS; TOEFL; BULATS; Trinity ESOL; Cambridge English (PET to Advanced). This is an affordable and practical alternative to class-based learning.
